(Late post September 30, 2015) We left Santiago...

...very early on September 30 for our flight to Barcelona. Even at the airport there were a lot of fellow pilgrims who stopped by to chat and to say goodbye.

We landed in Barcelona close to midday and looked for the Aerobus window to book the round trip transfer that would take us from the airport to the city and back.

Fossar de les Moreres
We got off at the city center and promptly followed the instructions to get to the left locker service we booked. According to the instructions it should have been only a few meters from the Aerobus terminal. We already walked some distance before we finally acknowledged that we were well and truly lost. The thing was, every person we stopped to ask for directions was: a. not a local; b. have never heard of what we were looking for; or c. did not speak any English. Then, it started to drizzle so we had to look for cover. And more importantly, we were both hungry and lugging around several kilos worth of baggage. So, we crossed the street and decided to retrace our steps. And lo and behold, there it was, just as the instructions said, just a few meters away from the terminal!

Street Art is alive in Barcelona
After we checked in our baggage, we still had a couple of hours to kill before our first tour of the city so we decided to eat at the most imaginative place we could think of…KFC! ;D Afterwards, it was a 15-minute walk to the tour’s meeting place. Our guide was not a local by birth, but he took us on a 3-hour circuitous tour of the city he loved, and shared why he loved the place enough to make it his home. We saw the historical gothic side of the city, the artsy side, the Jewish quarter, the Fossar de les Moreres and the first fountain that Gaudi ever designed as an apprentice. After the tour, we had another imaginative dinner in the guise of Subway before picking up our bags and making our way to what would be our home in Barcelona.
